ATG Entertainment, formerly the Ambassador Theatre Group, is a world leader in live entertainment.
Their portfolio of venues includes historic theatres, studio theatres, cinemas, conference spaces, and modern live music arenas. ATG Entertainment owns, operates or programmes 64 of the world’s most iconic venues across the UK, the US and Germany entertaining over 18 million audience members each year.
In February 2024, ATG enlisted Noisy Trumpet Communications to oversee Broadway in San Antonio’s remaining 2023-2024 show season and develop a strategic public relations plan tailored to each individual show, including Disney’s hit Broadway musical Frozen at the historic Majestic Theatre.
From the producer of The Lion King and Aladdin, the Tony®-nominated Best Musical, Frozen, played at The Majestic Theatre Wednesday, May 22 through Sunday, June 2. The goal of this campaign was to generate awareness of the musical, drive ticket sales, and secure attendance from media representatives, and social influencers on opening night.
Idea
Multi-channel approach maximizes exposure for San Antonio debut
To ensure the success of this campaign, Noisy Trumpet Communications worked in tandem with ATG and Disney Theatrical Group to determine clear objectives 3-months prior to the tour stop and different story angles we could utilize to support ongoing media outreach efforts leading up to opening week.
Key elements of the plan included identifying:
- Target demographics
- Crafting compelling narratives for press releases and media pitches
- Conducting media and influencer outreach
- Coordinating an exclusive press night
Idea
We designed a multi-channel approach to maximize reach, incorporating print, broadcast, online platforms, and influencer partnerships. Detailed timelines were established to align media coverage with peak ticket purchasing periods, ensuring sustained engagement and heightened anticipation leading up to the event. Regular progress reviews and adjustments were integral to maintaining momentum and addressing any emerging challenges, guaranteeing a cohesive and effective promotional effort.
To maximize the appeal of this theatrical experience, we began the campaign through tailored media materials and pitches highlighting that this would be the first time the production made its way to San Antonio. Our approach was to secure pre-show coverage at least 8-weeks prior to the tour stop in print, broadcast and online media outlets. Following the initial show announcement, we segued into phase two of the campaign which consisted of identifying unique story angles and talent interviews for local broadcast and print outlets 3-weeks prior to show week. To ensure publicity throughout the two-week span of the tour stop, our team also secured on-site and in-studio interviews with lead actors in the production, one of which was a San Antonio native who played the role of “Hans.” In addition, we incorporated a behind the scenes look with the Hair Supervisor of the tour who provided insight into the wig development and numerous changes throughout each show.
Results
Innovative marketing resonated with diverse audiences
By leveraging various marketing platforms, our approach enabled ATG Entertainment to effectively reach and resonate with diverse target audiences. The success of our campaign was measured by the following results:
- Media coverage alone resulted in over 19.6M impressions from print, broadcast, and online outlets which included major placements in the San Antonio Express-News, KSAT (ABC), and KENS (CBS).
- Overall, we secured a total of (60) media and influencer attendees for opening night of Frozen.
- Influencer coverage on opening night and post-event resulted in over 44,000 impressions.
The collaboration between ATG and Noisy Trumpet Communications led to great feedback and recognition from Disney Theatrical Group’s Director of Regional Engagements,
“I don’t think I’ve seen anything like this in recent history from a tour market… I very much appreciate it!”
